Descript is hard to beat for one thing: turning a recording into a clean video by editing its transcript. The people who move on usually fit one of three stories. A podcaster outgrows the media hours (10 a month on Hobbyist, 30 on Creator) and mostly wanted the clips anyway. A solo creator finds a desktop-style editor heavier than the phone app they already use. Or a small business owner bought Descript to make ads and realised the hard part was never the edit: it was having footage in the first place, and getting the finished video into a campaign.
As of October 2026 the free plan gives one media hour a month and 100 AI credits once. Paid plans are per person: Hobbyist $16, Creator $24 and Business $50 a month billed annually, or $24, $35 and $65 monthly. Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM and Brand Studio. The podcaster. OpusClip takes the long episode and returns ranked clips with captions, a virality score and auto-posting to Shorts, TikTok and Reels. Pro is $14.50 a month billed annually. Keep Descript (or its free plan) for the episode edit if you like it, and let OpusClip handle the shorts.
The phone creator. Captions is designed for recording and editing on a phone, with AI Edit styles and an AI twin. VEED is the browser equivalent with richer subtitles and translation.
The person who never wants to record. HeyGen gives you an avatar of yourself; invideo generates scenes with frontier models and lets you direct them on a timeline. Both still leave the campaign to you.
The business owner who needs ads. Vibiz starts from your website, writes hooks and produces UGC-style video and static ads with the real product in frame, then launches them on Meta or Google. You see the service fee next to the budget before approving; for $20 a day that is $4 a day on a $20 daily budget. Pro is $79 a month, or $63 a month billed yearly and also covers landing pages and posts. See the format on UGC ads.
Export your Descript projects and transcripts first. Then run one real job through the replacement: an episode for OpusClip, a phone video for Captions, an ad for Vibiz. Use free plans where they exist; Vibiz has none, but it shows your brand kit and first creatives before you pay. If the new tool saves time on the job you do most, switch. If not, Descript's free plan is a fine place to keep your recordings.
